Family put on floor for two-hour flight

Paula Taylor with her husband Ian and daughter Brooke

Paula Taylor was travelling to Birmingham Airport with her husband and daughter on TUI Airways. However once in the air, they had to move as the crew were preparing food and drinks. It's just not an experience I ever want to repeat.' The Civil Aviation Authority has contacted TUI for an explanation as to why the family were left on the floor and is investigating the possible breach of rules.

A family were forced to sit on the floor for their two-hour TUI flight to Menorca after discovering their seats didn't exist.

Paula Taylor told the show that she, her husband and 10-year-old daughter had got to the airport early, in June, to make sure they were seated together.

Cabin crew explained there was only one vacant seat left, and suggested Brooke could use it while her parents sat up front in the flip-up chairs normally only used by crew members.

But while the plane was airborne, flight attendants had to get access to food for other passengers.

Paula Taylor, from Alcester, Warwickshire, told BBC One's Rip-Off Britain, Holidays: 'It's hard and it's uncomfortable and it's just filthy.

"We all just looked at each other as if to say 'where's our seats gone?'", Mrs Taylor said.

Paula Taylor added, however, that the co-pilot had come to sit with them on the floor, thanking the family for their "co-operation and understanding".

TUI airlines said a "last minute aircraft change" caused the issue.

TUI said it was "sorry for the way the situation was initially handled" and will contact the family directly to apologise.

Paula said she was only offered a "goodwill gesture" of $38.50 for her family's troubles.

The company also offered a full refund for the family's £1,300 flights.

They turned down the option of a later flight and opted for the row with missing seats.
