Canadians involved in Cuban bus crash that killed seven, injured five

Five people were also critically injured.

The names and nationalities of those killed haven't yet been released.

Tourists from Holland, Great Britain, France, Mexico and Canada were also listed as being on-board the bus.

The bus was travelling from Baracoa to the capital, Havana.

While little is know about the victims, at this time there are indications of what caused the bus to crash in the first place.

According to local radio station Radio Guantanamo, the driver said he lost control of the vehicle in wet and slippery conditions as he was driving along a winding section of road.

This is nothing new for Cuba, as the country's highways are poorly lit, narrow and rutted with huge potholes.

Thursday's wreck is the fourth major bus accident in a month.

It is not clear yet if any Canadians were among those injured or killed in the crash or how many of them were on board.

Two Canadians were reportedly passengers on a bus that crashed in eastern Cuba on Thursday afternoon. There were 750 deaths and 7,999 injuries in 11,187 accidents a year ago in the country of 11 million.

From those crashes, 750 people were killed and nearly 8000 people were injured.

Three Cubans, two Argentine women, a German woman and a French man were among the dead, according to state-run radio.
