Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and wife divorcing after 25 years

Jeff and Mac Kenzie Bezos have been married for 25 years.

A tweet from Jeff Bezos Wednesday morning announced that he and his wife, MacKenzie, are getting a divorce.

According to the statement, the couple went through a "long period of loving exploration and trial separation" before deciding to divorce.

The couple met in NY at hedge fund D.E. Shaw when Jeff, the company's vice president, interviewed MacKenzie for a job, according to Business Insider.

The Bezoses said they felt "incredibly lucky" for their 25 years together and would remain involved with each other as close friends and parents.

Today, Bloomberg estimates Bezos is worth $137 billion making him the richest person in history, according to CNN . He owns a 16% stake in the e-commerce colossus he founded in 1994.

The couple also has four children, so it's possible some of the Bezos fortune will be diverted into funds for them before Jeff and MacKenzie take their share.

Though Jeff and MacKenzie are splitting up, they assured everyone they remain on good terms and have no bad blood between them.

"My office was next door to his, and all day long I listened to that fabulous laugh". "How could you not fall in love with that laugh?" They left NY on a road trip to Amazon's eventual headquarters in Seattle, with her driving and him writing up the business plan for what would become the world's largest online retailer.

"Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends", the statement concludes before being signed "Jeff & MacKenzie".

MacKenzie is an author of multiple novels, including Traps and The Testing of Luther Albright. And previous year they, a charity to help homeless families and create preschools.
