'Worst moment of my life': Couple reveal twist in 'devastating' proposal

NYPD Searching For Couple Whose Times Square Proposal Went Horribly Wrong

The once anonymous English couple who lost an engagement ring down a Times Square utility grate thanked the New York Police Department for finding it.

The department posted surveillance videos and photos of the couple Saturday showing a man start to propose, then scramble on the ground after he dropped the engagement ring. The tweet said the NYPD was making arrangements to return the ring.

They arrived home on Sunday and said they were planning on going straight to the jewellery store to buy another ring.

Mr Anthony said he's "ecstatic" the ring was found. "Can't thank officers enough!" After about 10 minutes of digging, they found it.

The only problem? The couple, who were only visiting, have already left the country. "Case closed! Love, John, Daniella, and the NYPD". He'd proposed and Daniella was wearing the ring when it fell off her finger.

Though the couple and police on-scene eventually gave up searching, the New York Police Department was able to return.

John told the BBC: "We just presumed it was gone. In the end, we had no choice but to walk away and try to enjoy the rest of our weekend".

"Here's a photo of the ring our officers recovered (and cleaned!)", the NYPD wrote on Twitter.

NYPD first put out the appeal to find the couple on Saturday.

The video has since gone viral, garnering more than 2.6 million views at the time of writing, as well as over 16,000 retweets.

Just as the guy gets to the dramatic moment, he manages to drop the ring between the gaps of a metal grate covering a drain in the pavement.

The NYPD says a couple, whose wedding proposal went horribly wrong, will get their happy ending after all.
