Redskins ‘Discussed’ Bringing In Colin Kaepernick, Unlikely To Sign QB

The Redskins have lost two quarterbacks to leg fractures and a once-promising season appears to be in ruins. The team has considered signing Colin Kaepernick. There's many, many good things that happen. Everybody sees it, it's pretty obvious, and there's nothing that can be done. His camp has been actively pursuing a collusion suit against the NFL owners, alleging that Kaepernick has had work opportunities closed off to him, due to his activism on the national stage. The excuses keep getting less believable, too. Enter Mark Sanchez, Redskins quarterback of about two weeks, who now finds himself guiding a team that's right in the playoff hunt.

Gruden said that they would need to build a specific package of plays and formations to take advantage of Kaepernick's athleticism, and that doing so this late in the season wasn't realistic.

The Washington Redskins "discussed" signing quarterback Colin Kaepernick but made a decision to go in a "different direction", says head coach Jay Gruden. Redskins defensive line coach Jim Tomsula was the 49ers' head coach for one season during Kaepernick's time.

The easiest answer to fixing an offense led by your third starting quarterback is to run the ball, like Gruden mentioned, but that could prove particularly hard given the injuries to the offensive line. "If you don't get any reps in training camp or preseason or regular season with the guys you're playing with, and you don't know the terminology, so to speak, it's a great challenge", Gruden said about Sanchez. Sanchez emphasized that 10-6 is possible, but that it starts at practice. You start to see stuff like that and it's nearly like teams are purposefully making it obvious that, like, they're keeping him out. "Unfortunately there has, to this point, been nothing that the courts or the league has done about it and that's the disappointing part, because these good football players didn't commit a crime, he didn't put his hands on anybody, murder anybody, you know, do anything that's that insanely crazy that he deserves to be banned from our football league".

It doesn't seem like Kaepernick's resume matters. Kaepernick filed a collusion grievance against the National Football League in October of 2017, alleging an organized effort to keep him off a roster as a result of his protests. But would the Redskins be willing to bring any amount or nature of enormous national attention to themselves, after the Reuben Foster incident?
