Kate Middleton & Prince William Celebrate Christmas Early with Some Military Families

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge host Christmas party for RAF families

As artificial snow fell, William chucked artificial snowballs at a children's entertainer, and Kate was caught in the crossfire.

In addition to all the fun, it was also a moving day for all in attendance. Middleton touched on her shared experience of having a husband in military service during her speech to guests.

As Middleton added, "But I can't imagine how it feels when your loved ones are away on active service over Christmas".

"The absence of people you love must be especially hard at this time of year".

Speaking in front of a crowd of RAF personnel and soldiers from the 2 Mercian Regiment, Prince William said: "As we approach Christmas, Catherine and I feel strongly that praise for your work and recognition of your sacrifices is exactly what is due to you all".

At the event, William gave a rousing speech to the troops, saying, "We know this isn't easy for you or your wives, husbands, children and friends back in the United Kingdom but on behalf of everyone at home, we'd like to say a big thank you".

During the brief visit to RAF Akrotiri on the southern coast of Cyprus, William and Kate met with serving personnel, families living on the base and members of the local community.

The witty dad joke from HRH garnered quite some laugh from both Kate and the military personnel who were all captured laughing at William's one-liner.

While at a royal engagement in Cyprus, Prince William made sure to remind us all that while he's not the King of England (yet!) He's certainly the king of dad jokes.

Earlier the duchess had chatted to Barrie, 72, and Ann Macdonald, 70, from Manchester who are looking after their five-year-old grandson Harry while his parents are deployed overseas at Christmas.

William and Kate flew into RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus for a brief visit on Wednesday afternoon to show their support for military personnel who will not be coming back to their families in the United Kingdom for the festive period. "They've got an important job to do and they don't have time to worry about their son".

William and Kate will bring presents and messages to the troops in Cyprus from the families they met in the UK.
