Facebook's secret documents seized by Parliament are published by MPs

Facebook Struck Deals Over Data and Burnt Rivals U.K. Lawmakers SayMore

Mr Collins alleged that Facebook maintained "whitelisting agreements" which gave select companies preferential access to valuable user data.

Facebook granted some tech firms full access to its user data as it sought to cultivate lucrative business ties with them - long after it said it was dropping the practice because of privacy concerns, according to an explosive cache of secret documents and emails.

Damian Collins, a Conservative member of British Parliament, made the documents public on Wednesday after demanding them last month under threat of sanction from Six4Three.

The emails feature in a case being heard in a California court filed against the giant by the now-defunct USA app developer Six4Three. "It is not clear that there was any user consent for this, nor how Facebook decided which companies should be whitelisted or not".

Facebook is accused of using this data to assess "not just how many people had downloaded apps, but how often they used them". He reiterated that in 2014, the company made some changes that limited the data apps could access from the platform.

A United Kingdom parliamentary committee has published 250 pages worth of Facebook documents, including emails sent between CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other senior executives. Data breaches, allegations of political bias by Facebook in content recommendations and lobbying tactics have also drawn questions from lawmakers.

In October 2012, Zuckerberg sent Sam Lessin, the company's director of product management at the time, an email that he was "getting more on board with locking down some parts of the platform, including friends' data and potentially email addresses for mobile apps".

Facebook has been keen to keep the documents out of the public realm - they are also now held under seal by a court in California - but last week Collins said Parliament would publish them if it felt it was in the public interest to do so.

"To mitigate any bad PR, Facebook planned to make it as hard as possible for users to know that this was one of the underlying features of the upgrade of their app", the summary said. When Twitter launched six-second video clip platform Vine, Zuckerberg approved revoking their access to Facebook's API.

"We've prepared reactive PR", Osofsky wrote, to which Zuckerberg replied, "Yup, go for it".
