Anxious father of missing British backpacker on his way to New Zealand

Grace Millane

But the 22-year-old was last in contact with her family the day before her birthday, on Sunday, and concerns for her safety are now mounting.

'We are really, really anxious and concerned about Grace.

"There's been nothing (communication since Saturday) between her and her family, no", Mr Beard said.

He told Checkpoint Ms Millane has been in New Zealand since late November and was last seen at 7pm on Saturday night at Sky City on Victoria Street in Auckland's CBD.

Her brother was not sure of her travel plans in New Zealand, but he knew she had a flexible itinerary booked to travel around most of the country.

Before coming to New Zealand she travelled as part of an organised group through South America for six weeks.

Mr Millane said she had two mobile phones with her but they both go straight to voicemail.

A number of unconfirmed sightings have been reported to detectives.

"She was in a very unusual place to stand, I would have thought a hitchhiker would have stopped on the left-hand side to get in the auto, she was on the other side".

'Her family member is coming out - obviously, they're distraught.

She has also not been not been active on social media despite it being her birthday on Sunday.

'Grace has been missing for five days.

On Wednesday, police received a missing person's report regarding the English national, who is now visiting New Zealand on holiday.

The missing girl's father is on his way to New Zealand to search for his daughter.

Her older brother Michael Millane says police have found CCTV footage of her returning to her Auckland hostel on Saturday night.

Det Insp Scott Beard, of Auckland City Police, said more than 20 staff were working on the case.

The family have posted on Facebook in the hope that others travelling in New Zealand can help find her.

"It's unusual for her not to chat so we're really anxious - this is totally unlike her".

Ms Millane, who graduated from the University of Lincoln with a Bachelor of Advertising and Marketing in September, saved for her holiday by doing office work at her fathers property development company.
