Withings Pulse HR is the firm's first dedicated fitness tracker

Withings Pulse HR

In terms of how it compares to the Steel HR Sport, the Pulse HR doesn't offer VO2 Max tracking, while the battery life is a little shorter; Withings promises 20 days of battery life, which is five fewer than its smartwatch sibling. In January, additional silicone wristbands will launch, but for the moment, we're unclear on how much those will cost.

Unfortunately, the Pulse HR doesn't have built-in Global Positioning System. The Withings Pulse HR fitness tracker is constructed using premium 316L stainless steel case and a reinforced polycarbonate surface coating to withstand wear and tear and everyday use.

As fitness trackers go, the Pulse HR is a fairly straightforward one. Theres no Global Positioning System receiver built in, but it can borrow the phones Global Positioning System to track your runs.

"With Pulse HR, we wanted to give people a new form factor from our Steel and Steel HR range that still offers the same wearability, quality design and best in class battery life", said Withings president Eric Carreel. This includes swimming as the band is rated at 5ATM. The band relies on your phone's Global Positioning System for accurate tracking of running, cycling, walking and hiking.

Further, the wearable features an OLED screen that displays stats such as step count, distance and phone notifications. Equipped with a long life battery capable of providing up to 20 days of use on a single charge. When worn at night, Pulse HR tracks sleep patterns and offers analysis.

The Pulse HR is comparably priced to Fitbit's Charge 3 and Garmin's Vivosmart 4, but both of those bands offer more advanced features, including SpO2 sensors for tracking blood oxygenation levels while sleeping.

Is the Pulse HR worth buying? The tracker will alert users with a soft vibration when they receive calls, texts, emails, event reminders as well as notifications from hundreds of apps ranging from news alerts, travel services and social networking and messaging apps.

It'll set you back $129.95, and Withings says that it'll officially release on December 5, arriving just in time for the holidays.

The fitness tracker is also compatible with third-party fitness apps like Google Fit and Apple Health.
