John Legend slams Trump during President's wild press conference

After being questioned about the migrant caravan and Russian Federation investigation during a post-midterms press conference, the president lashes out at the "rude, terrible" CNN chief White House correspondent.

Trump has repeatedly attacked the media throughout his time in office, calling reporters "the enemy of the people" and suggesting we should "take a strong look" at libel laws that restrict politicians from suing journalists (the only "libel law" that prevents this is the First Amendment).

The heated exchange began after Acosta clung to the microphone and persisted with questions about the president's repeated and angry denunciation of a caravan of poor Central American migrants making their way through Mexico to the United States border.

'I consider it an invasion.

But that question that I posed today was very timely, because just today, Patrick Casey, a leader of Identity Evropa, which is - which the Southern Poverty Law Center says is part of the alt-right and white nationalist movement, tweeted that he was at the White House today. "I'm fighting back not for me, I'm fighting back for the people of this country". The way you treat [White House press secretary] Sarah Huckabee [Sanders] and other people is awful.

As the hour-long Q and A trundled on, at one point Trump yelled at reporters to "sit down" and regularly barked down reporters with phrases like: "Excuse me, you were not called on".

Acosta tried to interrupt, saying Trump was being unfair.

So, what actually happened? You run CNN. And if you did it well, your ratings would be much better.'12.

Acosta then challenged Trump's use of the word "invasion" to describe the caravan and asked the president if he thought he had demonized immigrants. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter's colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question.

Mr Trump said: "That's enough".

Trump took the rare step of mocking Republican candidates who kept their distance from him during the campaign because of concerns that his divisive messages on immigration would turn off voters - but lost anyway. "You shouldn't be working for CNN".

"When you report fake news, which CNN does a lot, you're the enemy of the people", the president told Acosta. "You shouldn't be working for CNN". "Revoking access to the White House complex is a reaction out of line to the purported offence and is unacceptable".

The press conference followed the US midterm elections which saw US President Mr Trump lose the House of Representatives.

Despite losing the House, Mr Trump held onto the Senate, and branded the election results as a "big victory".
