Trump denies questioning VP's allegiance, says Pence is '100% loyal'

Trump Is Repeatedly Asking Aides If Pence Is Loyal Despite Recent Endorsement

President Trump pushed back on what he called a "phony story" that he harbors doubts about Vice President Mike Pence's loyalty. Mike Pence is 100%. "He is 100 percent loyal", he told reporters before departing for California.

The article suggested the President has been asking White House employees if Pence is loyal to him. "I doubt they have any sources, a typical New York Times phony story".

The Times cited "outside advisers" to the president who felt Trump should get a running mate to help him with women voters, such as Nikki Haley.

Spicer added that he believes Trump values the counsel of Pence and called him a "tremendous partner". He's been with me from as soon as I won the primaries.

Mr Trump has not openly suggested dropping Mr Pence from the ticket with the 2020 presidential election rapidly approaching, the New York Times stressed.

The President also said Pence's loyalty has been tested in many ways, and he couldn't be happier with his pick for Vice President.

White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley brushed off the rumours, saying that Trump "absolutely supports the vice president".

On Friday, the White House denied the Times' reporting.

"Mike, will you be my running mate?"

He said that the Obama administration had considered swapping Vice President Joe Biden for Hillary Clinton in 2012.

Still, Pence has remained publicly devoted to Trump over the last two years, making a political odd couple out of the Christian conservative and the famously philandering, foul-mouthed and shady reality star-turned-far right demagogue.

"Thank you. Okay, good", Trump said.
