Three asteroids on 'close approach' course for Earth this weekend

In fact, NASA has not warned or alerted anyone to any asteroid threats. It is estimated between 32 and 75 feet wide, has an approach distance around 446,000 miles, and is moving at a velocity of.6 miles per second relative to Earth.

The Virtual Telescope snapped the above photo of asteroid 2018 VX1 with a single, 600-second exposure on November 8.

Sky gazers will get lucky tonight as a giant asteroid larger than a double-decker bus will come closer to Earth than the moon does. That is 3,000 kilometres closer than the moon's average distance from our planet. This is about half the distance from our planet to the moon. So there is a lot of room out there.

At 1:20 p.m. ET on Saturday, 2018 VX1 will safely zip past Earth at approximately 20,000 km/h.

Asteroids regularly pass close to Earth, so there's no need to panic. That's because asteroids are relatively small and, therefore, hard to spot.

But that's precisely the good news: they are small.

Meteors, meteoroids and meteorites normally originate from asteroids and comets. But Chelyabinsk was nearly twice the size of 2018 VX1. The five asteroids that will pass by the Earth on 10 November may not hit it, but there are roughly 18,000 other objects that could potentially harm our planet.

Pastor Begley bizarrely claimed the arrival of asteroid is one of the many warning signs foretold in Biblical scripture. This near-Earth asteroid is between 45 and 100 feet (13 and 30 m) in diameter.

And 2018 VR1 will be more than five million kilometres from Earth when it flies past around the same time.

The asteroid is set to fly past Earth on November 11 - after first being spotted in 2015, when it flew past Earth right on Halloween.

Astronomer Matija Cuk, University of British Columbia in Canada, said: "It is highly unlikely that a regional or global destruction would occur anytime soon - next couple of centuries - since we have already discovered most of near Earth asteroids larger than 1 km, and none of them seem to be heading this way".
