The Real Reason California Has More Wildfires Than Finland

Donald Trump visited the fire-ravaged state

Thousands of miles across the Atlantic, people in Finland are making a mockery out of President Donald Trump after the USA leader called on Americans to be more like Finns and take care of their forest floors by "raking and cleaning and doing things".

People in Finland have been left bemused after Donald Trump said the country's use of "raking" techniques helped prevent forest fires.

"I was with the president of Finland and he said: 'We have a much different - we're a forest nation, '" Trump claimed.

"I was watching the firemen the other day, and they were raking areas".

But the President of Finland said on Sunday that he had not discussed the clearing of forests during a brief meeting with trump in Paris last weekend.

But he pointed out that this is not done with a rake - and the wood is collected for energy production.

Just when you think he's said or done the single dumbest thing in the history of the American presidency, he comes over the top with something even more mind-bogglingly stupid, nearly like he's going for the high score.

But Finns were less diplomatic online, with many of them creating memes about Trump's comments. Some joked that Trump should "Rake America Great Again", others called his comments "Rake News" while others simply said: "We don't rake our forests here in Finland".

'And they don't have any problem.

The latest blazes have capped a two deadly wildfire seasons in California that scientists largely attribute to prolonged drought they say is symptomatic of climate change.

The Nordic country's leader recalled telling Trump "we take care of our forests", but couldn't recall any specific mention of raking. "And when they do, it's a very small problem".

Forests cover over 70 percent of Finland's 338,000 square kilometers.

Despite more than 1,276 people still unaccounted for in the Camp Fire - which has burned over 149,500 acres in Northern California - and at least 77 people being been killed, Trump didn't seem particularly apologetic about messing up. "You wouldn't have the fires". "And they're raking ... little bushes, that you could see are totally dry, weeds".
