Skybound restarts work on The Walking Dead with original Telltale devs

Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season Resumes Development at Skybound

"After Telltale shut its doors, the game was, unfortunately, unable to be worked on and hence the release dates of Episodes 3 and 4 have been delayed", reads an official blog post.

After taking over the development of the game from Telltale Games, the creators of narrative-driven games based on popular brands like Game of Thrones, the Borderlands series, and The Walking Dead, Skybound announced on Monday that it's returned to work on the series that was jeopardized by Telltale Games' turmoil.

Telltale laid off 225 staff members in the run up to its closure and was initially set to wrap up The Final Season, while The Wolf Among Us 2 and Stranger Things were shelved.

Following Telltale's demise, some of its existing projects continue to live on through Skybound Games. Hopefully this will turn out as a fitting final act for a studio that was often at its best when working with the Walking Dead.

Skybound has promised to announce the release dates for the two remaining episodes soon, and told fans not to panic if past episodes and seasons become unavailable for purchase over the next few days, explaining it's all part of the transition process.

It was back in September when news of Telltale's troubles first broke.

Those who purchased The Final Season will still have access to the new episodes as they normally would.

Over two weeks later, Robert Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment announced that they had plans to complete Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season for those who had purchased the season pass and bring Clementine's story to an end.
