Seth Moulton, Stephen Lynch sign letter opposing Nancy Pelosi as speaker

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, is likely to disarm Democrats of their trusty weapon- the circular firing

The letter was initially supposed to be released last week. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), who is toying with a speaker run herself, was removed from the letter.

We are thankful to Leader Pelosi for her years of service to our Country and to our Caucus. Pelosi spent Friday meeting with some of these incoming freshmen, a continuation of outreach she has been conducting since House Democrats prevailed in the midterm elections. Ben McAdams (D-UT) signed the letter, but that may be rendered meaningless if Republican Mia Love continues to hold her lead over him in their still uncalled mid-term race. "The move to oust Pelosi comes two weeks after Democrats seized control of the House with their largest majority since 1974". She needs 218 votes to be elected speaker on January 3, and Democrats are now projected to control 233 seats in the House.

Her signature was also conspicuously absent in the above letter. "He believes it's time for new leadership". If fifteen Democrats vote against Pelosi on the floor, she wins the gavel by one vote.

Accordingly, a draft proposal from Democrats on the House Rules Committee proposes an "independent diversity office" tasked with ensuring the House employs a "diverse workforce with qualified candidates that is reflective of our Members and the districts they represent", because "public servants working for the People's House should reflect the faces of America".

Sixteen Democrats signed the letter, including 11 current House members.

"When we finally get into the majority I think we have to do all we can to keep these new members here, to support them in whatever campaign promise that they made", Rice told reporters last week. Republicans kept the Senate but lost the House, which they had controlled since 2010.

"If your strategy relies upon Nancy Pelosi giving up, you will lose every single time", a senior Democratic aide told HuffPost. "Just as there is this undertone of racism in the country, there's also that in our caucus". It doesn't vow to never support Pelosi, say, if there is a second or third ballot. She is a historic figure whose leadership has been instrumental to some ofour party's most important legislative achievements.

To be sure, these signatures pose a problem for Pelosi.

Even with Fudge off and some Democrats shaky, the opposition is still enough at this point to block Pelosi from being speaker.

Another five Democrats - Congressman Conor Lamb (Pennsylvania) and Representatives-elect Jason Crow (Colorado), Jared Golden (Maine), Mikie Sherrill (New Jersey) and Abigail Spanberger (Virginia) - have made firm statements saying they would not vote for Pelosi but did not sign the letter.

Among the signers were Pelosi challenger Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), and Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA). "She deserves this victory, she earned it", he said.

Pelosi critics assert there are several more Democrats who've not signed the letter who are prepared to vote for a candidate opposing Pelosi.

Pelosi, for her part, has signaled confidence throughout this whole experience that she will be elected.
