See video from the Russian rocket that failed with NASA astronaut aboard

A video screenshot showing the Soyuz MS-10 rocket launch failure on October 12

The LV failure cause is of the operational nature and spreads to the stock of already assembled packets of the Soyuz rocket. The next mission to the space station, MS-11, will carry Russian Oleg Kononenko, American Anne McClain, and Canadian David Saint-Jacques.

The two crew members - NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksey Ovchinin - were forced to make a ballistic re-entry but made it back to terra firma safely.

Russian Federation is the only country now able to send astronauts to the International Space Station, and the accident caused it to suspend all launches until getting to the bottom of the rare failed manned launch. It's a miracle that neither of the astronauts was injured. Both astronauts were rescued within an hour of their safe landing.

After investigating the incident, Russia's space agency, Roscosmos, determined that one of the rocket's boosters failed and remained stuck to the main rocket body instead of peeling off. Video from an on-board camera shows it happening as the four strap-on boosters detach from the core stage at 1:23. The Russian officials have directed a steep investigation regarding the failure of the rocket that took place on 11th of October.

An unmanned transport is to lift off on November 16th and a Soyuz with a crew of 3 on December 3rd.

Japan also announced today the release of its H-II Transfer Vehicle-7 (HTV-7) resupply ship, also called the Kounotori, from the station's Harmony module. This mission will fly on the same Soyuz FG configuration of the rocket used for human flights, and if this flight goes well, it is expected that Soyuz crewed missions will resume in early December. Russian Federation stands to lose that monopoly with the arrival of SpaceX's Dragon and Boeing's Starliner crew capsules.

Another Soyuz capsule is docked at the space station, which the astronauts will need to use before the end of January in order to return to Earth.
