Rooney's England return is 'completely wrong', blasts Shilton

"Wayne was one of our greatest ever England players".

None of the gate receipts taken from Wayne Rooney's final performance for the England national team will be made available for his foundation, a report in The Times has revealed.

The match will be Rooney's 120th appearance for England and a final opportunity to add to the record 53 goals he has amassed so far.

If Kane is on the pitch against the U.S. at Wembley when Rooney makes his entrance, he is likely to hand the armband over to the former Manchester United and Everton striker.

"I do not know too much about how he is going to do it or how long he is going to play", Kane told Sky Sports after Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Rooney is not expected to captain England or wear the No 10 shirt against the US.

"Everyone should get right behind it and give him a great send-off".

The DC United forward, who has scored 53 global goals and made his last worldwide appearance in a 3-0 victory over Scotland in November 2016, will be used as a second-half substitute. "I think all the players respect Wayne's contribution and that he deserves the best possible send-off".

"There have been ongoing discussions since Wayne retired about paying tribute to him and his England career", said the manager, who added Rooney had declined an opportunity to be honoured ahead of the World Cup so as not to take the attention away from those going to Russian Federation. It's a great experience to have for the younger players in our team.

Everton centre-back Michael Keane is recalled to the squad for the first time in a year.

He said: "There's still a long way to go but hopefully I can stay fit and healthy and score a few more goals".

"Having said that, we've given caps to people who haven't earned them in the past - I'm not going to name names - and you do wonder how on earth they got them".
