Nigerian monarchs yesterday held a closed-door meeting with Prince Charles at the British High Commissioner's residence in Abuja on Tuesday.

The British royals began their West African tour in Gambia.

Despite the heat, Prince Charles looked his usual dapper self in a pale grey suit, complete with a lilac shirt, patterned tie and a smart pocket square.

They arrived to a welcome ceremony at Jubilee House where they met President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

Prince Charles and Princess Camilla would visit Lagos on Wednesday, where they will engage the business community on a wide range of businesses, trade and investment.

In Ghana, Prince Charles deplored his country's role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade that saw thousands of Africans shipped to work in slave plantations in Europe and the Americas.

Charles and Camilla's sixth day of their royal tour, which found them in Accra, was a whirlwind!

NAN also reports that the Benin monarch, Omo N'Oba Ewuare II, had, on Sunday, arrived in Abuja ahead of Prince Charles' visit to Nigeria. It's no surprise that Prince William and Prince Harry's dad enjoyed this stop - bringing awareness to environmental issues around the world has always been a passion for him.

"The decision was taken upon advice from the Nigerian government and others involved in security and operational aspects of the visit", said a British foreign office spokeswoman on Monday.

President Muhammadu Buhari received the royal couple upon their arrival in the country at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He is said to be "disappointed" about the cancellation of engagements that were to include a discussion on peace-building efforts.
