Pipe bombs suspect Cesar Sayoc has been ordered held without bail in NY.

Dressed in a navy blue prison overalls with his grey hair pulled back and knotted at the back of his head, Sayoc appeared respectful and alert in court.

Sayoc, 56, appeared before a Manhattan federal court for just a few minutes.

Prosecutors had argued before the hearing that Sayoc was too risky to be released on bail.

Prosecutors told a judge that Sayoc, reportedly a rabid supporter of Trump and white nationalism, presents a flight risk and is a serious danger to the public.

A preliminary hearing in the case was set for November 12.

The attempted bombings heightened political tensions and put the United States on edge ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections, seen as a referendum on the Trump presidency.

Prosecutors have accused Sayoc of sending 16 improvised explosive devices.

All of the bombs were sent through the United States postal service but none exploded and no one was injured.

Cesar Sayoc, 56, was arrested on October 26 for his connections to the pipe bombs sent to influential figures in the Democratic Party, including former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Sayoc's cell phone contains photos of some of his alleged victims, including prominent billionaire George Soros, the homes of both Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden, along with a photo of a driver's license belonging to former First Lady Michelle Obama, according to ABC News.

Sayoc faces almost 50 years in prison if convicted on five federal charges that were filed in NY because some of the devices were recovered there.

Prosecutors say the laptop also contained addresses for "numerous additional targets.' Those people, whose names have not been made public, have been notified about the threat by the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

Though she has been estranged from Cesar Sayoc for several years, she said she believes he has been mentally ill "for a long time", making him especially susceptible to the president's frequent anti-media and anti-Democrat remarks.
