Man breaks into crocodile enclosure, gets bitten

Crocodile attack: Video of man attacked at Florida Zoo | Daily Star

A Florida man was bitten after he broke into the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and jumped into a pond full of crocodiles, according to staff.

The Florida Times-Union reports St. Augustine police responded Tuesday morning to reports of vandalism at the Alligator Farm Zoological Park. Officers say he was seen climbing into the Nile Crocodile enclosure and then jumping into the pool with the reptiles. Police said the man was bitten by a crocodile and sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his feet and leg. Authorities didn't release the man's identity.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment before being taken into police custody.

While he was being transported to a nearby hospital, another 911 call came in, reporting the alligator farm break-in the previous evening, and authorities realized the two incidents were related.

"He jumped off a 5- to 6-foot structure into about 2 feet of water, then climbed up on the 20-foot structure later, which we know from the blood trail", Brueggen said.

Hatfield was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and violation of probation. "In our 125-year history, this is the first time anyone has tried to go swimming with the crocodiles".

He also caused damage to the complex in the region of $5,000 (£3,800).
