Jo Johnson quits United Kingdom government over 'delusional' Brexit deal

The buses can accommodate 131 passengers

His brother Boris Johnson whose promises in the Brexit campaign Jo may well have been referring to, praised Jo's resignation, saying they were "united in dismay" at the PM's handling of the negotiations.

However he emphasised that a "no deal" Brexit, which the government insists is the only other option, would mean "chaos" that would cause disruption, delay and deep damage to the United Kingdom economy.

But Mrs Thornberry said today that the option of campaigning for a second referendum was still on the table.

The shadow foreign secretary reiterated that Labour would not back Theresa May's deal unless it passed the party's six tests, underlining once again how the challenge of getting her Brexit agreement through parliament - including past her own backbenchers - could be May's biggest of all. Not long ago, one of them said, "for me, it could be an issue of party or country". He called for a second referendum - a position which has been repeatedly rejected by Downing Street.

The DUP leader said "no unionist" could back Mrs May's apparent advocacy of a withdrawal treaty that includes a Northern Ireland specific backstop measure to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland.

"It has become increasingly clear to me that the withdrawal agreement, which is being finalised in Brussels and Whitehall even as I write, will be a bad mistake", he wrote in an online article. What we can do is recognise the reasons why people voted leave.

"Well done to Jo Johnson for joining the ranks of those who think we can do better".

But in a pointed message to his brother and other Brexiteers, he said: "Inflicting such serious economic and political harm on the country will leave an indelible impression of incompetence in the minds of the public".

"The Prime Minister thanks Jo Johnson for his work in Government".

Other pro-EU ministers who might be galvanised into following Mr Johnson's departure include Liam Fox, Philip Hammond and Chris Grayling, who all voted to remain in the European Union in 2016.

Jo Johnson has resigned and is backing a second referendum.

She admitted her constituents were furious about leaving the European Union and said MPs should not be forced to back a "bad and destructive deal".

The MP, who voted to remain is Boris Johnson's brother - a leading Brexiteer - and argued Britain was "on the brink of the greatest crisis" since World War Two.

Despite such statements, as the country stopped to mark the Armistice centenary, the potential role of the military in the case of no deal Brexit was a topic of discussion on both Sky and the BBC's Sunday politics coverage.
