Jim Acosta is No Martyr to Journalism

President Donald Trump speaks to CNN journalist Jim Acosta during a news conference in the East Room of the White House

"She gets publicity and then she gets a pay raise, or she gets a contract with - I think CNN - but she's very nasty, and she shouldn't be", Trump said of Ryan, a 21-year veteran White House reporter.

During that conference, CNN reporter Jim Acosta and Trump had a heated exchange, which included a White House staffer trying to yank the microphone from Acosta's hand.

At the earlier news conference Mr Trump, when asked by Mr Acosta if he had "demonised immigrants" during the midterms campaign, replied: "No, I want them to come into the country".

The heated exchange began after Acosta clung to the microphone and persisted with questions about the president's repeated and angry denunciation of a caravan of poor Central American migrants making their way through Mexico to the United States border. "It's a group of migrants moving up from Central America towards the border with the U.S.", Acosta said on Wednesday, pushing his own personal opinion and not exactly asking a "question" of the president. "But I watch you a lot and you ask a lot of stupid questions", Trump said, jabbing his finger at her before turning and walking away.

Trump claims reporters aren't "treating the office of the president with respect".

Unprompted, Trump brought up April Ryan, the White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, who doubles as a CNN analyst.

"As visual journalists, we know that manipulating images is manipulating truth", said Whitney Shefte, the association's president.

As he was heading off to Paris, Trump stopped to talk to reporters and was asked how long Acosta's pass would be revoked.

"Was I a loser today and yesterday or just a loser today because I tried to ask a question about a serious issue, voter suppression?"

"What a stupid question that is, what a stupid question".

"I mean, she intentionally disseminated doctored video footage to discredit a reputable journalist", Kimmel stated.

"The fact that the White House Press Secretary is promoting this doctored video is reprehensible and grounds for dismissal - or, as they call it in the Trump administration, Thursday", Colbert said on The Late Show.

"Secretary Sanders lied", CNN said in a statement, saying the press pass suspension was "done in retaliation for challenging questions". "But it could be others, also", Trump said as quoted by The Daily Caller. He gets paid to do that. "I think this also may be the first time I've ever seen Sarah Sanders take the woman's side on any subject, ever". Trump followed up Friday, calling Acosta unprofessional and stated that he hadn't decided whether Acosta's suspension would be permanent, but forewarned that "it could be others" who get suspended.
