Jack White Says He’s Disappointed About Homophobic Incident at Canada Show

Jack White at the White House

Jack White has spoken out after learning a venue staffer stopped two women from kissing in the audience at his Edmonton show on November 2.

White also uploaded a photo of a lesbian couple sharing a kiss at concert by The Beatles in 1964, which he said is "one of my favorite photos".

MacIvor told CBC News that the Rogers Place usher placed a hand between her and the other woman when they kissed during White's performance of "Seven Nation Army" by his old band the White Stripes.

An Edmonton woman says she was left speechless after an usher at a local concert venue told her she wasn't allowed to kiss another woman.

His Instagram caption included: "It's 2018 now and two people expressing affection shouldn't have to hide".

White dedicated his song "Love Interruption" to the women at his concert in Calgary the following night.

Shocked, they went to the manager, whom MacIvor says was very apologetic.

"My good friend pulled me back just as shocked, to finish enjoying the last song, and the handsome moment, before my broken and shocked spirit blew a fuse", the post read.

In a lengthy Facebook post, which has since gone viral, she explained that she had kissed her friend during a song played in the final encore.

"I embraced my girlfriend, and some staff member came in between us, and she said, 'This is not allowed here, '" explained Allyson MacIvor.

A spokesperson for the Oilers Entertainment Group, which owns Rogers Place, told The Edmonton Star that the arena was conducting "a thorough review of the situation".

"The manager, taking the reigns, asked her to resume her post, as the young worker walked away, glaring in disapproval at my friend and I". "We unequivocally welcome and support all members of the LGBTQ community", the statement said.

In her post, the fan claimed the worker pulled her aside and shook her finger disapprovingly, telling MacIvor "That's not allowed here", because it was "inappropriate sexual behaviour".
