DeSantis: No reaction to race he declared 'over'

Gillum concedes Florida governor's race

Tallahassee mayor, Andrew Gillum, has officially conceded the Florida governor's race as a recount of ballots from the United States midterm elections neared its end.

Gillum shared the news alongside his wife via a Facebook Live post.

Congratulations to Andrew Gillum on having run a really tough and competitive race for Governor of the Great State of Florida.

"In the end, I believe that we will win", he wrote.

After Gillum initially conceded the contest on election night, his subsequent calls for every vote to be counted echoed similar appeals from fellow Democrat U.S. Senator Bill Nelson.

State officials ordered a manual recount on Thursday after a machine recount showed that Republican Gov. Rick Scott led incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson by about 12,600 votes.

This is a developing story.

Trump campaigned to help push DeSantis to a primary victory in August and visited Florida two more times to help the Republican in the final days of the election.

The US Senate race recount in Florida is still undecided, with a hand recount still underway.

Democrat Andrew Gillum says he is ending his hard-fought race for Florida governor and has congratulated Republican Ron DeSantis. "He will be a strong Democrat warrior long into the future - a force to reckon with!" More than 8 million voters cast ballots in the race.

DeSantis ran a largely negative campaign, calling Gillum a socialist and saying he oversaw one of the most corrupt and crime-ridden cities in the state.

Gillum appeared in a Facebook video with his wife, R. Jai Gillum, to acknowledge his loss ― by a margin of just 0.41 percentage points.

A recount has also been ordered in Florida's Senate race. Counties have until noon on Sunday to report official results to the Department of State.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel posted video where Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes said that 2,040 ballots had been "misfiled". The totals for Nelson and Scott have changed slightly, but not significantly.
