'Deeply sorry': Rebel Wilson apologises for plus-size claim

By Saturday, Mo'Nique herself chimed in on Twitter, suggesting Wilson "take a moment and know the history" of romantic comedies before making such bold claims about her casting.

The Australian actress quipped: "I'm proud to be the first-ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy". That same year, Mo'Nique starred as the "succulent" Jazmin Biltmore in "Phat Girlz", where she romanced a buff Nigerian doctor, Tunde Jonathan (Jimmy Jean-Louis), at a Palm Springs resort.

While the audience cheered, it didn't take long for many on Twitter to raise their digital eyebrow and counter Wilson's claim by mentioning actresses Mo'Nique and Queen Latifah.

Wilson did tweet in a reply to playwright Claire Willett Saturday that she will address what happened "while promoting [Isn't it Romantic] in the proper forums". "I wish you the best".

- Mo'Nique Worldwide (@moworldwide) November 3, 2018Rather than acknowledging that she was wrong, Wilson responded to Mo, saying she wasn't trying to "erase anyone's achievements".

'I support all plus size ladies and everything positive we are doing together'.

"I want everyone to remember this when they try to strong arm any marginalised group into educating someone of privilege", Kent adds.

Film and pop culture columnist Clarkisha Kent shared her frustration with Yahoo Movies UK about Wilson's reaction to their criticism compared to that of white critics.

In the same interview, she hinted at a fourth Pitch Perfect film.

Fans have also pointed out that actress and rapper Queen Latifah, 48, also starred in the 2006 rom-com Last Holiday. Technically those films are [categorized]/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead.

Wilson produced and will star in Isn't It Romantic, a film about a woman disenchanted with love who mysteriously finds herself trapped inside a romantic comedy.
