China unveils new'Heavenly Palace space station as ISS days numbered

Several global space agencies launched the main module and first components of the ISS into space over two decades ago.

The results are in, one year after the Hewlett Packard Enterprise sent an off-the-shelf supercomputer to the International Space Station to test if mass-produced hardware could survive, basically unmodified, in the harsh environment of space.

Citing China as a threat, U.S. President Donald Trump has launched plans to create a new "Space Force" to give his country dominance over rivals in space.

"Viewers can watch high-resolution footage from inside and outside the orbiting laboratory right on their computer screens", NASA says.

The 55-foot long core module was put on display at the country's leading aerospace industry exhibition, the Airshow China, in the southern coastal city of Zhuhai.

NASA astronaut Ricky Arnold does some filming on the International Space Station Oct. 3, 2018, with a Helium 8K camera, made by the digital cinema company RED. Construction is expected to be completed around 2022. China announced earlier this year that they would allow other countries to conduct experiments on-board Tiangong.

Roscosmos said Tuesday that one of three computers in the station's Russian module has failed.

"There is no doubt that China will use its station in a similar way as the ISS partners are using their outpost: research, technology and as a stepping-stone for deep-space exploration", said Chen Lan, analyst at GoTaikonauts.com, a website specialized in the Chinese space program.

It has received 40 plans from 27 countries and regions, according to state media.

"Science gets scaled up with the first 8K ultra high definition (UHD) video from the International Space Station", NASA wrote in the video description on YouTube. She also hopes to send a robot on Mars and humans on the Moon.
