Highlights as Novak Djokovic continued his scintillating run of form as he breezed past Croatian Borna Coric

SHANGHAI-Novak Djokovic won a record fourth Shanghai Masters title with a 6-3, 6-4 win over 13th-seeded Borna Coric on Sunday.

The 13th-seeded Coric was responsible for defeating Roger Federer in a major upset during the quarterfinals.

He will move to No. 2 on the ATP rankings Monday, displacing Roger Federer who fell to Coric in the semifinals.

There was no let-up, though, and a sublime volley had Djokovic cupping an ear to the crowd as Coric failed to break back, the contest finally settled as the 14-time grand slam victor served out the championship.

Unfortunately for Coric it didnt get better from there, as he missed an overhead sitter on his first service game in the second set, giving Djokovic another break.

The victory means Djokovic is now just 35 points behind Nadal in the race to end the year as world No.1 and 215 points behind the Spaniard in the official rankings. However, he has been on a winning streak since August and has earned trophies in four major tournaments including Wimbledon, the Cincinnati Masters, the US Open and now the Shanghai Masters, Xinhua reports.

Djokovic has had a lot of luck playing in China over the years.

Djokovic claimed the first set holding the Croat to love, with errors from the latter handing the Serb an early lead in the second set.

This is the fourth final of Coric's career, having won Marrakech and Halle and reaching the final in Chennai in 2016. "It took me a long time to start feeling comfortable and confident on the court again", Djokovic said. The last four months had been "fantastic" and "tremendous", he said.

"I could not ask for a better scenario", Djokovic said.

The 21-year-old looked to be becoming increasingly frustrated by Djokovic's ability to consistently return even the most measured shots, although he stood his ground in a marathon third game. "He served better", said Federer, proclaiming himself pleased nevertheless with his form.

Djokovic dominated opponents behind his powerful serve, winning all 47 of his service games during the tournament. I think since I was a kid I was always paying attention to the practice court.
