Saudi Arabia transfers $100m to State Department as Khashoggi crisis deepens

Khashoggi was tortured before being killed: report

Saudi Arabia has stoked Turkish ire with its support for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, who are at the vanguard of the US-led campaign against the Islamic State in Syria.

Meanwhile, reports say Saudi Arabia had delivered one hundred million dollars to the U-S at the same time American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Riyadh earlier this week.

But now, the tide is turning amid growing outrage over the disappearance and likely death of a US-based journalist inside a Saudi Consulate in Turkey, and that confidence appears to be waning.

President Donald Trump says he has asked Turkey for audio and video intelligence if it exists.

"It is 500,000 jobs, it will be ultimately $110 billion".

In that case, he said, "I think we'll also be guided by what other countries are doing".

"So hopefully it is working out".

"As the new crown prince engages in increasingly reckless behavior, more and more of us are wondering whether our ally's actions are in our own best interests", he wrote in The Washington Post.

Ozturk suggested that Turkey, with its unprecedented leverage over the Saudis, would agree to a formula that would see the much despised crown prince stripped of his title. That is a big factor in my eyes.

Turkish officials have said they believe Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who was critical of the authoritarian kingdom's Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 and his body removed. The Post held off publishing it because we hoped Jamal would come back to us so that he and I could edit it together.

The Saudis are long-standing allies of the United States, particularly in combating terrorist networks, but analysts said the credibility of the U.S. -Saudi relationship depends on candor and accountability.

"The Saudis have been great partners in working alongside us on these issues", Pompeo said.

Among the "number of options" the USA could pursue are sanctions, arms sales reductions and United Nations resolutions, Kennedy suggested. "Those are important elements of US national policy that are for, are in Americans' best interests".

"If the United States stands for anything, we need to stand out loud and foursquare for human rights".

Turkish crime-scene investigators searched the home of the Saudi consul general in Istanbul Wednesday in the disappearance of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi.

Then on Wednesday, the president's top diplomat paid a visit to the Turkish government in Ankara's Esenboga airport, where he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu for about 40 minutes, the latter of whom described the meeting as "beneficial and fruitful".

Yeni Safak, a strongly pro-government newspaper, said Mr al-Otaibi could be heard telling those allegedly torturing Mr Khashoggi: "Do this outside; you're going to get me in trouble". "They (Saudis) didn't want to either".

Pompeo has said Riyadh should be given a few more days to complete an investigation into the disappearance of the journalist, a prominent critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
