Saudi anti-regime journalist disappears after entering Saudi Consulate in Istanbul

President of Turkey says he hopes Saudi writer is still alive

Reports of Khashoggi being killed at the country's consulate in Istanbul were doing rounds and the same was covered by several global media.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Saudi Arabia has the responsibility to prove its claim that a missing Saudi journalist left the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

"Forced disappearances are cases against human rights and we are here to condemn this crime committed against a journalist", Yurtsever said.

"Killing him is like killing us".

He added, "we will allow them to enter and search and do whatever they want to do ..."

Turkey's president has demanded Saudi officials prove their claim that missing journalist and Riyadh critic Jamal Khashoggi left the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, as the United States called for a thorough probe into his disappearance.

Human Rights Watch says if Saudi Arabia has detained Khashoggi without acknowledging it, his detention constitutes an enforced disappearance.

"If media reports prove correct, we will treat the incident seriously - friendships depend on shared values".

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has met ambassador Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf Al Saud to "seek answers", a day after Downing Street said the United Kingdom was "working urgently" to establish the facts behind the disappearance. Saudi Arabia still insists it's all baseless. Turkish police responded there are cameras watching the consulate at all times and they did not record his departure.

"His is a voice of reasoned criticism and wise comment that the Saudi crown prince should listen to", wrote Law, who said he had known Khashoggi for 16 years.

The Turkish police in Istanbul has been keeping an eye on the comings and goings at the Saudi consulate since the time - according to the journalist's fiancee - Khashoggi entered the building. It was not immediately clear whether the second plane, pictured here, which left Istanbul for Egypt, was also searched.

However, in the Turkish press there are reports that the Saudi Ambassador had asked Khashoggi to apologize to the king, which the journalist had denied to do. His disappearance sparked global concern.

"We do not know if he is alive or not, and the statements by Saudi Arabia on the subject are far from satisfactory", Turan Kislakci, a friend of Khashoggi and TAM chief, said in a statement to supporters. "I hope we won't encounter an undesirable situation".

"Perhaps I'm simply trying to hide from the thought that I have lost a great man whose love I had earned".

Khashoggi went missing last week after visiting the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey.

Kaye spoke to The Associated Press moments after he and two colleagues called for an worldwide, independent investigation into the disappearance of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

He said a security delegation of Saudi investigators arrived in Istanbul Saturday to help look into the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi. Two others flew out commercially, Sabah said.

Khashoggi was once a Saudi newspaper editor and is a familiar face on political talk shows on Arab satellite television networks. In the early 1990s, he tried to persuade bin Laden to reconcile with the Saudi royal family and return home from his base in Sudan, but the al-Qaida leader refused.

Meanwhile, harsh reactions and demands for accountability are pouring in from USA lawmakers of both parties, as well as from other Western governments such as the United Kingdom. Sen.
