Samsung buys network data specialists Zhilabs in 5G push

Samsung says ola to Zhilabs

The acquisition will allow the company to further enhance its 5G capabilities whereas AI-based automation will play a central role in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and connected auto applications, which will require advanced automated solutions and network analytics.

Zhilabs, which uses artificial intelligence to analyse network data, could help its transition to newer 5G gear, as it uses automated network analytics tool for fast data crunching. While the firm now belongs exclusively to Samsung, its own management team will continue to run the company independently.

Established in 2008, Zhilabs now provides a solution that analyzes networks' conditions, performances and data traffic for different services.

AI-based automation will play a key role in crunching loads of data for 5G-based services such as the industrial internet of things and autonomous cars.

"The acquisition of Zhilabs will help Samsung meet these demands to assure each subscriber receives the best possible service", added Kim.

"5G technology will disrupt the communications landscape for the better, but it will only be successful if the quality of the networks transferring the information can be measured and improved to provide a best-in-class experience".

Samsung has made clear that it's got a cash horde of more than $20 billion it wants to spend investing in businesses that will in some way lay groundwork for the company's future growth - businesses that focus on everything from AI to autonomous cars.

"Zhilabs with its software products and technology will be contributing towards Samsung's existing end-to-end solutions that it offers to its customers".

Despite falling smartphone sales across the world, Samsung has declared its intention to invest heavily in the AI, 5G, electronic components and biopharmaceuticals markets.
