Porsche Panamera GTS Returns with Driver-Focused Goodies, Twin-Turbo V-8

Porsche Panamera and Sport Turismo gets a GTS treatment

Both the Panamera GTS and its more wagonlike Sport Turismo receive their motivation from a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 453 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque.

Available with either the standard hatch or Sport Turismo wagon body styles, the GTS enhances the Panamera with an extra helping of sportiness but without blowing up the price.

Other standard goodies include the Sport Chrono package, a Sport Exhaust system, the Sport Design package with lots of black bits and a set of black 20-inch wheels. The two models achieve a top speed of 292 and 289 km/h respectively.

Along with the uprated powertrain, the GTS gains the full gamut of Porsche chassis systems. Air springs and adaptive dampers (Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, or PASM) are standard but feature a custom calibration for the GTS and a 0.4-inch-lower ride height. The Sport Design package with a new black front end, black trim at the bottom of the rear, and a variety of darker elements highlights the more athletic appearance.

Extra sportiness comes from lowered suspension which sits 10 millimeters lower than on tamer Panameras, and attached at each hub is a 20-inch wheel. The interior features hallmark elements of black Alcantara and anodised aluminium. An optional interior package, meanwhile, allows buyers to customise their vehicles with various design elements, such as a rev counter, designer seams, and GTS logos in the contrasting shades of Carmine Red or Crayon.

The GTS models offer all the same innovations as the second-generation Panamera range. Finally, the GTS is the first member of the second-generation Panamera family to feature an available driver-configurable head-up display.

As is tradition at Porsche, GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport. This was followed by the 924 GTS and 928 GTS in the 1980s and 90s.

The Porsche Panamera lineup is growing as the company has taken the wraps off the 2019 Panamera GTS.

Given enough wide-open road-such as, say, an unrestricted autobahn-the GTS can reach 181 mph (179 for the Sport Turismo), Porsche says, just outpacing the 4S at 179 mph but falling short of the Turbo's 190 mph.

The new GTS models are available to order now.

You'll be doing 292km/h flat out in the Panamera GTS, and 289km/h in the Sport Turismo GTS.
