Idaho Wildlife Official Resigns Over Uproar About African Hunting Trip

Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Blake Fischer shared photos of his guided hunting trip in Africa with friends and colleagues when he returned last month, expecting they'd appreciate his success.

Blake killed numerous animals in Namibia, when there he said he received a list of species he could hunt and was required to pay a trophy fee for certain animals.

On this bloody hunting trip in Namibia, Fischer and his wife shot and killed over 14 animals, including giraffes, leopards, antelopes, and impalas.

In the email Mr Fischer joked that his wife wanted "to get a feel of Africa, so I shot a whole family of baboons". "What bothers me is he's got the family there and a little baby baboon sitting there with blood all over it, kind of like in the mother's arms", Alder said.

Trevey cited the Idaho Department of Fish and Game's hunter education manual, which he said "clearly instructs our youth to have consideration for and respect the opinions of non-hunters", and to "refrain from taking photos of the kill and from vividly describing the kill within earshot of non-hunters". "I apologize to the hunters and anglers of Idaho who I was appointed to represent and I hope that my actions will not harm the integrity and ethic of the Idaho Fish & Game Department moving forward". I didn't do anything unethical.

"Baboons are free", he told the newspaper. Itt just puts a bad light on us'.

The message, along with the names of the commissioners who supported the call for Fischer's resignation, eventually reached Otter's attention.

Images of Fischer and his kills, including a giraffe and a leopard in Namibia, sparked global outrage and led to the unprecedented call by former fish and game commissioners that he step down.

The Idaho Game and Fishing Commission has seven members, who are subject to appointment by Governor Otter, and further confirmation by the national Senate. Fischer, according to the Statesman, was reappointed by Gov. C.L.

Keith Stonebraker, another former commission member, told the newspaper an apology by Fischer would satisfy him.

"I recently made some poor judgments that resulted in sharing photos of a hunt in which I did not display an appropriate level of sportsmanship and respect for the animals I harvested", Fischer wrote.

"It's fair to say the governor is concerned about it", Hanian said, adding that Otter has seen the pictures. "You shoot an animal, you take a picture of it".

Numerous images show the animals posed in a stereotypical African game hunting style, with one caption reading: "So I shot a whole family of baboons".

Steve Alder, executive director of Idaho For Wildlife, a pro-hunting group, told KBOI that Fischer's hunts were despicable. You just don't do that.
