How Mohammed Dewji the Africa's youngest billionaire was treated by abductors

Kidnapped Tanzanian tycoon Mohammed Dewji found

Africa's youngest billionaire, snatched a week ago off the street outside a luxury hotel in Tanzania, has returned home unharmed after being released by his kidnappers, police said on Saturday.

Dewji, 43, had been abducted last week by unidentified gunmen as he went for a workout at the high-end Colosseum Hotel in Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam.

The company also quoted him thanking those who had worked for his release, including the police. I thank all my fellow Tanzanians, and everyone around the world for their prayers, ' he said in the tweeted message.

His family had offered a reward of 1 billion Tanzania shillings ($612,000) for information leading to his release, though it was not immediately clear how much the kidnappers had demanded.

Dar es Salaam police chief Lazaro Mambosasa told Mwanachi that he had already spoken with Dewji, who had told him that his abductors spoke an African language.

Tanzania national police chief Simon Sirro told the press conference that Dewji had already provided some information about the kidnapping.

'We found him there physically fit, and we suspect that the abductors are South Africans because he said they were communicating in one of the vernacular from that country'.

It operates in a dozen countries and has interests in agriculture, insurance, transport, logistics and the food industry.
