Facebook May Soon Bring 'Unsend' Feature on Messenger

Facebook testing 'Unsend' button for Messenger

Jane Manchun Wong - the fan of reverse engineering who tipped us off about Facebook dating and voice control in Messenger - has unearthed the Unsend option in the Facebook Messenger app. Apparently, a long-press on a message shortly after it's sent will kill it, though there's seemingly a limit on the number of messages you can retract.

In early April, a scandalous Bloomberg report revealed that Facebook had "secretly" deleted some messages from Mark Zuckerberg and other company executives through the Messenger app. Or you've sent the right message, but to the wrong person?

The new addition to Messenger's options would differ from deleting messages, which only lets you remove them from your side of the conversation; the recipient would still retain a copy of the message on their side. Instagram refers to the new feature as "Facebook Location History" and describes it as a method of tracking the Global Positioning System location of a user using Facebook's tools.

The new "unsend" message feature launched by Facebook can be useful and can be harmful.

But it is not the first time that Facebook implemented such capacity. Just weeks ago, Facebook revealed a security flaw which led to probable information theft of nearly 50M Facebook users, the figure was later revised to be 30M. Rather, you will see a note stating that the said message was removed. Evidence has been found that an "unsend" option is in the works.

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, already lets users unsend messages on the platform.
