Donald Trump says United States will build up its nuclear arsenal

Trump threatens to build up US nuclear arsenal until Russia China 'come to their senses'

The US is saturated with weapons and doesn't need a new nuclear build-up, former congressman Ron Paul has told RT, commenting on President Donald Trump's threat to quit the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces in Europe (INF) treaty.

"Until people come to their senses, we will build it up", he said, referring to America's nuclear stockpile.

"In addition, new strategic threats from a rising China requires the United States to consider the alliances we have around the world and the commitments to uphold global security". And it includes China. And it includes Russian Federation. "You can't play that game on me", he added.

Trump, if he follows through with his threat and tears down the landmark treaty, signed between US President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, "won't do us any good", Paul said.

"Talking about China on the issue of unilaterally pulling out of the treaty is completely mistaken", spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

It put an end to a mini-arms race in the 1980s triggered by the Soviet Union's deployment of SS-20 nuclear missiles targeting Western European capitals.

Russia, which has long denied it is violating the treaty, fired back on Monday.

Ryabkov said Russian Federation has strictly adhered to the treaty, and accused the United States of violating its terms and seeking to exit the deal as it "creates problems for pursuing the line towards the US total domination in military sphere".

The Trump administration has complained of Moscow's deployment of Novator 9M729 missiles, which Washington says fall under the treaty's ban on missiles that can travel distances of between 310 and 3,400 miles (500 and 5,500 kilometers).

Moscow was ready to work with the United States to salvage the agreement, the Russian Security Council said after a meeting between its chief Nikolai Patrushev and US National Security Adviser John Bolton.

Earlier, Reuters reported Bolton's statements according to the radio station's translation of his English remarks into Russian.

"But Russia has not, unfortunately, honoured the agreement".

These include China's DF-26 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), which has a maximum range of 4,000 km (2,500 miles) and which the Pentagon says can threaten USA land and sea-based forces as far away as the Pacific island of Guam.

On Sunday, one of the original signatories of the INF treaty, Mikhail Gorbachev, said a U.S. withdrawal would reverse efforts made to achieve nuclear disarmament.

On the issue, the White House and the Pentagon are on the same wavelength.

He is well known for his aggressive foreign policy views, and in particular his belief that the U.S. needs to confront Iran more directly.

Not all USA military officials have agreed, however, that the United States needs to counter Beijing's build-up of land-based missiles with weapons of its own banned under the INF Treaty.

Ultimately, Zavari argued that although the USA withdrawal from the INF Treaty will have some impact on the security of Iran and other regional powers, Europe will be the hardest hit from a security standpoint.

Moscow responded Monday to Trump's threat with a combination of offers to negotiate "mutual" grievances over the INF and threats to answer any USA military escalation with one of its own.

When asked about the MDR, Manning said he had no precise publication date to announced, but he highlighted that "all factors will be taken into account before the Missile Defense Review is released".
