USA official in Russian Federation probe suggested taping Trump, 25th amendment

The deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, suggested past year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.

Unidentified others have been said to discuss it, including an unnamed senior administration official who wrote an Op-Ed for The New York Times. But let me clear about this: "Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25 Amendment".

The news was first reported by the New York Times.

In response to the story, McCabe's attorney's issued the following statement to ABC News: "Andrew McCabe drafted memos to memorialize significant discussions he had with high-level officials and preserved them so he would have an accurate, contemporaneous record of those discussions".

In an interview with Politico, a DOJ official who was in the room when Rosenstein made a comment about wearing a wire when meeting with Trump said the deputy attorney general was being "sarcastic". When he announced the move, Trump originally cited Comey's mishandling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

Rosenstein immediately refuted the accuracy of the Times' report.

Rosenstein, a mere two weeks into his duties overseeing the Russian Federation investigation, began mulling plans to record the president after FBI Director James Comes was sacked in May, according to the report.

Those making these claims were briefed "either on the events themselves or on memos written by F.B.I. officials, including Andrew G. McCabe, then the acting bureau director, that documented Mr. Rosenstein's actions and comments", according to the New York Times.

Because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation, the authority to fire Mueller rests with Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general.

On Friday, Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump, Jr., tweeted the Times' story and said: "Shocked!" "When he was interviewed by the Special Counsel more than a year ago, he gave all of his memos - classified and unclassified - to the Special Counsel's office".

The extraordinary stories describe an unprecedented consideration of the invocation of the 25th Amendment, may further jeopardize Rosenstein's position within the administration, and paint him in a deeply unflattering light even as they further call into question Trump's fitness for office.

McCabe's lawyer, Michael Bromwich, said he has no knowledge of how his memos were made available.

'"A set of those memos remained at the F.B.I.at the time of his departure in late January 2018", the attorney noted.
