Trump Orders DOJ To Declassify Multiple Russia Documents

BREAKING President Trump Orders Declassification of Some FISA Court Documents All Texts From Russia Investigation

Trump, on the other hand, says that the release of these classified documents is simply about being transparent.

"Really bad things were happening, but they are now being exposed".

President Trump told The Hill on Tuesday that he'd ordered the declassification of a number of key documents connected with the FBI's investigation of alleged Russian collusion with members of his campaign team to show that the probe was "corrupt" and a "hoax".

In a statement, a Justice Department spokesperson said, "When the President issues such an order, it triggers a declassification review process that is conducted by various agencies within the intelligence community, in conjunction with the White House Counsel, to seek to ensure the safety of America's national security interests".

The June 2017 application was the last of four filed by the Justice Department in support of FISA court orders allowing the monitoring of Page. His communications were monitored for almost a year starting in October 2016.

The statement from Sarah Sanders confirms that Trump is ordering the declassification of the Carter Page FISA application, FBI reports of all Bruce Ohr interviews "prepared in connection with the Russian Federation investigation", and all FBI reports of interviews prepped "in connection with all Carter Page FISA applications". Those are all people Trump has criticized as out to get him.

The warrants released to the public were previously heavily redacted.

The declassification of the documents was quickly praised by Trump allies in Congress and attacked by Democrats.

"Transparency wins. This is absolutely the right call from POTUS", said Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, on Twitter.

"The applications routinely will contain critically sensitive details about the methods and means by which intelligence investigations gather information, including the identities of sources who may well be endangered if their identity becomes public and who certainly will be dis-incentivized from future cooperation as well", said Bobby Chesney, a national security law professor at the University of Texas.

In morning tweets apparently quoting from a television appearance by Representative Peter King, a New York Republican, Trump wrote, "What will be disclosed is that there was no basis for these FISA Warrants, that the important information was kept from the court, there's going to be a disproportionate influence of the (Fake) Dossier".

"Americans deserve the truth about these egregious actions by government officials", Representative Scalise said.

Democrats in the House believe this is just another attempt by President Trump to selectively release documents which will strengthen his own defense in the Special Counsel investigation.

Representative Schiff said the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department had said releasing the documents would cross a "red line" because doing so would compromise sources and methods.

On Fox New's Sean Hannity show Page said it was "so incredibly stupid to begin with".

"The Privacy Act is a big hurdle here unless Congress takes control of the materials and tries to release them themselves", Banks said.
