Thousands without power in Montreal as Ontario storm spreads to Quebec

Tornado rips through eastern Ontario (VIDEO & GALLERY)

Residents leave with some of their belongings from a Gatineau, Quebec, Canada neighborhood on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018.

Hydro Ottawa says more than 170,000 customers were without power early this morning as a result of the twister, which blew through Ottawa, Dunrobin, Ont., and Gatineau, Que., late Friday afternoon. "It looks like something from a movie scene or a war scene".

A freelance journalist says a group of people rescued a dog who was trapped under the rubble in an Ottawa neighbourhood ravaged by a tornado.

Meantime, the Ottawa Hospital tweeted that five people were being treated for storm-related injuries - down from six last night - with two people in critical condition, one in serious condition and two others are stable.

Personal items were strewn everywhere - a baby blanket, a life jacket, mattresses, lawn mowers, a fridge, a kitchen sink lying on the grass and even a love seat wrapped around a telephone pole.

Meanwhile, the Greater Toronto Area saw wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour, he said.
