Sony Announces "PlayStation Classic" Mini Console, Comes With 20 Games

PlayStation Classic PS1 PSone

This marks Sony's first attempt to release a mini retro console, following in the successful footsteps of Nintendo who in the past few years have released a NES Classic Mini and a SNES Classic Mini.

The PlayStation Classic comes pre-loaded with 20 PlayStation games such as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash! Their popularity led to stock issues, and did not go unnoticed by the company's rivals; now Sony, too, is getting in on the act.

The PlayStation Classic is set for release here from Monday 3 December and is confirmed to be priced at a cent short of €100.

It also comes with an HDMI cable, a USB cable to power it up, and the original buttons on the system act in new, useful ways - again just like how the NES Mini's reset button would take you back to the home menu. We've reached out to Sony India for clarity on the India launch of the PlayStation Classic and will update this space accordingly. More information is available on the official website.

Overall, the announcement of the PlayStation Classic came as an unexpected surprise and a very welcome one for some fans.

We would imagine we'll hear more information about United Kingdom retailers very soon.

The design of the Sony PlayStation Classic reminds us of the original PlayStation, and features the same colourful PlayStation logo on top as well as identical layout and package. "All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format", Sony said in a blog post. On the front the memory card slots don't operate but the console includes built-in memory for save game storage.
