Russia Declassifies Data on Missile That Downed MH17 Flight in 2014

Russia says flight MH17 downed by Ukraine-owned missile

The Russian military has made a new claim about the downing of a passenger jet over the war zone in eastern Ukraine in 2014, asserting that the missile that brought Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 down was sent to Soviet Ukraine after it was made in 1986 and never returned to Russia.

September 17, Russian Federation has shown the recording of the alleged telephone conversation of the Ukrainian military as evidence of the Downing of their plane.

The Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed outside the rebel stronghold of Donetsk on July 17, 2014, killing all 298 on board, a lot of them Dutch nationals.

Parshin said that the numbers on the missile components clearly indicated that it was produced in 1986 by a factory in the Moscow region and then transferred to Ukraine and remained with the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The investigators concluded that the missile had been fired from rebel-held territories in eastern Ukraine and that "all the vehicles in a convoy carrying the missile were part of the Russian Federation armed forces".

Pro-Russia news portal RT.com reported the missile was manufactured in 1986, after an worldwide team of investigators led by the Netherlands discovered two serial numbers on the fragments of a rocket, marking the projectile's engine and nozzle.

Konashenkov also analyzed a video, released earlier by the Dutch-led investigation team, arguing in detail that this evidence of the BUK missile system showed signs of tampering and editing.

In the weeks prior to the plane crash the separatists bragged on social media about shooting down Ukrainian military aircraft.

A highly placed rebel, speaking to the AP shortly after the crash, admitted that rebels were responsible.

The rebels believed they were targeting a Ukrainian military plane, the person said.

The Russian military did provide material assistance to the rebels, and journalists sighted sophisticated weapons in the separatist-controlled areas that were never in Ukraine's arsenals.

Oleksandr Turchynov, secretary of Ukraine's Security and Defence Council, said on Monday that Russia's claim is "yet another failed fake report that the Kremlin made up in order to cover up their crime that has been proven by the official investigation as well as independent experts".

Major General Igor Konashenkov, the Defense Ministry spokesman, accused Dutch investigators of "faking" videos that reconstructed the Buk transport and launch vehicle's path toward the launch site.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Monday signed a decree not to extend an official friendship agreement with Russian Federation.
