Office 2019 for Windows and Mac Lands Today

This is the traditional "offline" version of Office - you know, the way that Microsoft used to deliver the productivity package before it began to focus more on the cloud-based Office 365 and recurring revenue from that subscription model. This will include new features such as automatic suggestions-merely clicking the search box will present personalized results, such as documents you've edited recently or contacts you email regularly-and the ability to search for commands within the application. And while Office 365 users will continue to get new features, Office 2019 won't get those either.

According to the official blog post, all the new changes in the Microsoft Office 2019 are a subset of features that are already available on Office 365. As for what comes next, Microsoft has said that it's "committed to another on-premises release in the future", though won't say whether or not that will be the last.

Microsoft Search will unify search across Windows, Office, Edge and Bing. It's now available in Bing.com, Office.com, the SharePoint mobile app, and the Outlook mobile app. OneNote for Windows 10 is included with the Windows 10 OS.

Office 2019 includes a bunch of enhancements and new features that focus on better collaboration, use artificial intelligence and offer improved security. It also allows users to drag data from one app to the other at the same time.

Inking has been spread across all of the Office 2019 apps, including support for pressure sensitivity and tilt effects if your stylus and digitizer of choice supports it. There will also be a simplified migration to Office 365Pro. The "on-premises" version is being described as " for customers who aren't ready for the cloud", and brings together some of the stand-out features that have been gradually added to Office 365 ProPlus over the past three years. Microsoft promises this productivity suite will be available to all customers, consumer and commercial, in the next few weeks.
