Loftus-Cheek must learn Sarri methods to earn Chelsea chance

'I can see it as a positive; I'm playing for England, playing well when I play, and that's without too many appearances so it's still raw in that sense'.

Loftus-Cheek now hopes to show Sarri the strides he has made at the next opportunity, likely to be next week's Europa League opener at PAOK Salonika.

When the 22-year-old took the field for England in their 1-0 win friendly win against Switzerland at Leicester's King Power Stadium on Tuesday, he was making his first start this season.

Loftus-Cheek also reflected on his early days at Chelsea, and how training alongside their world-class talent helped to develop him as a player, but admitted that he needed his loan spell at Crystal Palace to get more exposure to the Premier League.

The arrivals of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley (last January) kept the competition for midfield places fierce at Stamford Bridge and Loftus-Cheek, who has been with the West London side since the age of eight, ended up staying at Chelsea with the club hierarchy telling him to fight for his place in the squad.

Having played more minutes for his national team than his club so far this season, Loftus-Cheek will no doubt be thinking very seriously about his future.

And he revealed that Chelsea hero Zola, now Sarri's No2, is giving him one-to-one lessons on how to play "Sarri-ball". I still train well and do everything the right way in case I do play.

"Chelsea have got a good squad, it's a shame on the lad".

Asked if he could head back to Palace in January, Loftus-Cheek replied: "Possibly, but it is still far away, there are still a lot of games to play and I just have to see what happens".

"A lot of my game is based on physicality and I obviously didn't feel my fittest against Switzerland but I will build on that".

'I started really enjoying my football, playing in the Premier League every week, and I felt the benefits.

"We had a lot of talks in the past couple of weeks and [Sarri] said to me that I need to learn tactically so a lot of my focus and effort is learning his tactics and his ways in training. The quicker I get that then the more opportunities I will get", he said.
