The Miami Heat are the latest team to emerge in the Jimmy Butler sweepstakes and according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Pat Riley is doing everything he can to land the wantaway Wolves star.

Butler is on the trade block and the team's owner Glen Taylor has mandated the four-time all-star needs to be traded.

The shortlist of three has now grown to 12 potential teams willing to swing a deal for Butler, giving Minnesota's brass more options than they initially had.

The list of organizations interested in talking further with Minnesota about a trade include the Nets, Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings, league sources told Wojnarowski.

Symbolically, it hands Towns the keys to the franchise as the Timberwolves prepare to deal Butler. "So when I look at what was the impact [of having Butler], it was huge", Thibodeau said, adding that he always knew there was risk involved in trading for Butler given his contract situation. Now the team is back in the building for 2018 Media Day.

While the Heat might not have the type of elite player typically sought in such moves, they do have several salaries they could put into play for Butler, who will earn $20.4 million this season, with the right to become a free agent in July.

Their loose pieces in Kyle Korver, Jordan Clarkson, Cedi Osman, and Larry Nance Jr. simply don't generate enough to warrant an equal trade, making this a likely impasse to get a deal done. As for the Timberwolves, it's clear that Butler's time with the team is coming to an end. The Cavs reportedly talked to Chicago about acquiring Butler last off-season, but as David Griffin's contract expired, negotiations to bring in a general manager were in limbo.

"It makes too much sense for them not to", he said.
