Bautista Agut got the better of third seed Marco Cecchinato 7-6 (7-0) 6-3, while Martin Klizan will face Wawrinka after ousting Denis Shapovalov 3-6 7-5 6-3.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka, now ranked 88th, seemed on his way for a fourth win over Klizan in as many career matches when he took the opener, but the world No. 65 fought back to seal the victory in two hours and 16 minutes, reports Efe news.

Kilian plays his seventh final with an eyebrow-raising record of six titles out of as many championship matches. I was mixing a lot the speed, I'm moving well, I've been aggressive when I needed to, some good defence.

Wawrinka, the former world number three who is down at 88 after struggling to find his best form following two operations on his left knee, looked nervous at the start dropping his serve early in the opening set.

He responded by breaking back twice to take the opener in 32 minutes. Klizan went on to take the set.

Martin Klizan's flawless record in ATP finals will be tested by top-seeded Dominic Thiem in the St. Petersburg Open decider.

"It was a great match from the beginning to the end", Thiem said.

Klizan has won all three prior meetings with Thiem, with all three matches going to three sets.

He wasted the first when his forehand landed long and Stan repelled the second with a service victor, rattling one easy service game after another to stay in front all the time.

"I'm happy that I won this time".

In the second semifinal, No. 1 seed Thiem made short work of Roberto Bautista Agut, winning 6-3,6-4 in one hour and 24 minutes.
