Big Brother 2018: Emma Willis speaks out on Channel 5 axing

BIG BROTHER ENDING

The new civilian series of Big Brother is due to kick off tonight, Friday, September 14, following the end of Celebrity Big Brother on Monday. And the current host Emma Willis was also hopeful.

Fans could access the show via a video-on-demand subscription, a move trialled in the US.

In a statement, production company Endemol said they were "disappointed" not to reach an agreement with Channel 5, but "are excited about future possibilities for "Big Brother" in the UK". "Genuinely, we had a grave for it and everything in the back garden".

This is the first look at the Big Brother 2018 house where a contestant from Halifax will be staying.

She added: "The news was a shock, but I still hold out hope that somebody out there loves it as much as we still do and will give it a home in the future because it has been on the TV for a bloody long time".

"Gutted. Watched from day one and I'm still a fan", said another.

There are a handful of possibilities for Big Brother in the United Kingdom; a number of industry execs have suggested that it could work on UKTV, the joint venture broadcaster owned by Discovery and BBC Studios.

The first edition of the show quickly built momentum thanks to the antics of Craig Phillips and Nick Batemen - dubbed Nasty Nick by the tabloids - and peaked with an audience of 9.5 million during the final.

After Channel 4 pulled the plug Channel 5 stepped in to air the show in a two year deal in 2012.

The dating show failed to captivate viewers when the channel brought it over in 2012, but the current appetite for dating shows could help revive its popularity.

This year's house is created to bring Big Brother back to its roots as a social experiment but everything has been created to remind the housemates that they are in a game: maze artwork, intriguing design features, and a gaming table.

A 23-year-old farmer from Tipperary is now being housed in a secret location in London as he prepares to join the cast of the next series of UK TV show Big Brother.

The broadcaster said: "The forthcoming series of "Big Brother" will be the last - of either celebrity or civilian versions - on Channel 5".

Rylan Clark-Neal, host of Big Brother Bit on the Side, released a statement after the news was announced.

And Emma Willis was effortlessly chic as she hosted the last ever Big Brother launch show, teaming a buttoned-up black blouse with matching braced pants.

Last year's civilian series - airing in its usual summer slot - saw an average of just 1.24 million viewers, a record low for the series.
