YouTube Removes ‘The Nun’ Ad After Jump-Scare Complaints

New Poster For The Nun

The footage was flagged by a YouTube user who advised fellow viewers to "look away and/or turn down the volume if you have anxiety or just straight up hate jumpscares, pls rt to save a life". Apparently, the ad violated their content policy for being too shocking.

While the ad may not go entirely against the company's policy, the jump scare element lines up with the "intention of shock or scare", which prompted YouTube to immediately take it down.

An advertisement for The Nun has been removed from Youtube following a wave of complaints. Then again, some Twitter commenters are hypothesizing that Warner Bros. distributed the ad with the intention of getting it pulled, in order to get The Nun some publicity in a saturated horror market.

While Corin Hardy's upcoming horror flick The Nun is aiming to terrify audiences at the theatre, it's already doing that online. YouTube user "wigstle." saved a copy of the ad, viewable through this link, and uploaded on August 12 for anyone curious, and courageous enough, to view.

The platform's shocking content policy is as follows: 'We value diversity and respect for others, and we strive to avoid offending or shocking users with ads, websites, or apps that are inappropriate for our ad network. While it may not have been held in the highest regard, it did warrant a sequel, Annabelle: Creation, which was met with much more positive reviews.

The Nun is the latest horror film in the Conjuring franchise, and it may be the scariest.

Entertainment Weekly writes that the movie takes the "subgenre known as "nunsploitation" (yes, that's actually a thing). mainstream". Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, and Jonas Bloquet star.

Bonnie Aarons reprises her role as the demon nun from "The Conjuring 2".

The Nun will hit theaters on September 7th.
