Whiteboards used as Gatwick flight information screens fail

Chaos at Gatwick airport as flight info displayed on whiteboards amid screen glitch

Passengers flying from Gatwick Airport face severe disruption as an IT fault means that none of the passenger information screens are working.

Edmund von der Burg/TwitterStaff at Gatwick Airport had to write out flight departure information on whiteboards after the screens stopped working.

Airport staff have been forced to write important flight information on whiteboards around the airport, meaning passengers are huddling around the makeshift info points to find out gate numbers, flight times, flight numbers and even boarding times.

Footage on social media showed staff writing out the flight status of each flight and rubbing them off as updates came in. Naturally people have taken to social media to express their grievances, including the "tiny" whiteboard being the only source of information. "This is a top priority for us and we are very sorry for any problems caused by this issue". You have to get to the airport, deal with security, then hang around the overpriced shops and cafes while waiting for the gate information to pop up on a big electronic screen.

"Thank goodness I have eagle vision and can read messy writing from a distance".

"Gatwick would like to apologise to any passengers affected and expects Vodafone to resolve the issue as soon as possible", Gatwick, London and Britain's no.2 airport behind Heathrow, said in its statement.

It tweeted: "A fix for the issue is being worked on".
