Trump encourages boycott against Harley-Davidson

Donald Trump,Harley Davidson,Steel Tariff

As recently as past year, Trump extolled the company, saying in a meeting with executives in the Roosevelt Room that he considered Harley-Davidson a "true American icon, one of the greats".

As a result of tariffs imposed by President Trump, Harley-Davidson made the decision to transfer a portion of its production overseas.

The president's predictions may be coming true, but perhaps more importantly, Donald Trump seems to have managed to cozy up to American bikers, Harley riders in particular.

The European Union (EU) responded by pledging to raise tariffs on a list of goods that are imported from the USA, including Harley motorcycles, CNN reported.

That followed Trump's meeting on Saturday with about 180 bikers who are part of a "Bikers for Trump" fan group at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey. A really bad move!

Trump has taken it personally since Wisconsin-based manufacturer - once a presidential favorite - announced on Monday, August 13, it is moving some production out of the US. His administration has battled against eliminating tariffs and trade barriers that harm the interests of the United States.

Harley-Davidson said that it would manufacture its motorcycles meant for the worldwide market in overseas factories, saying tariffs on its motorcycles rose from 6 percent to 31 percent as a result of the trade dispute. "It's just they get you, they gouge you. Shows how unbalanced & unfair trade is, but we will fix it", he said.

The company acted after Trump's administration imposed steel and aluminum tariffs that promoted retaliatory measures from the European Union that Harley-Davidson said would increase its costs by US$2200 for each bike shipped there.
