Tiger Woods lurking at PGA Championship

Shane Lowry is bloody killing it at the USPGA Championships

His third shot out of the bunker was a beauty - it hit the green and rolled back toward the hole for a very makable par putt. The day was over-except no, not quite.

Meanwhile, Koepka will take a two-shot lead over Australian Adam Scott into the final round on Monday after shooting a four-under 66 that left him at 12-under for the tournament.

On Sunday, finally, they'll collide.

A change of shirt paid dividends for Tiger Woods as he recovered from a nightmare start to his opening round of the 100th US PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club. Tiger Woods birdied three of his first five holes played.

There were so many other big names jostling for position that at one point it felt more like a vehicle race than a golf tournament. Be Bellerive's guest, walk unimpeded beside them, serve your cheer up to willing ears. Woods was one of the golfers to not complete his second round.

"It was awesome", said Stewart Cink, who also shot 66. "For sure, it was the craziest round I think he's ever seen".

Finau was among five players who accompanied Furyk to France this summer for a scouting trip at Le Golf Nacional, the host course of the September 28-30 Ryder Cup matches.

Tiger Woods, who won his 14th major in 2008, shot 66 to end on eight under.

The Offaly man was out on course early this morning and clearly in the zone.

"I can really tune in in the majors and I have no idea why", he said. Instead, he may have overcorrected.

"If you look at it, I left pretty much every single putt short on the back nine", he said. "And I blew it by about four feet".

Most notably, the world number 50 missed a 20-foot putt for eagle on the par-five 17th and then saw his four-foot birdie attempt slide by. "I didn't do that, I rapped it past the hole and missed the putt". So there's no feeding putts. "We don't have any, the greens are too slow and too soft for that".

Woods will go into Sunday in the same spot he was at the British Open in July, at four strokes off the lead. It's his best finish in a major and this is his 28th. He finished his second round in the morning after play was suspended Friday afternoon, and came right back out on the golf course making birdies. Although his driver gives him fits at time, he is still hitting his irons well enough to give himself chances, and he is due for a hot putting round that would take advantage of such success.

The PGA Championship moves to May next year, which isn't going to do the event any favors in terms of standing out; the only possible benefit is coming earlier in the golf calendar, between the Masters and the U.S. Open, but that's not going to make it feel like a bigger event. He'll have to hope for Koepka to stumble, which he doesn't often do, not once he's wrangled the leaderboard as well as he has at Bellerive.

Woods' front nine charge - 4-under - came to a screeching halt on the back. The only person on the course who wasn't convinced, it seems, was Woods himself. You're never going to win a major.

Woods is by no means the favorite.

"You can just have a quick look down the first page of the leaderboard and look who is there, it's great players and players in the best form this year", marveled Scott, who shot a round-of-the-day 65 to move into second place.

The back-to-back birdies put Woods into the top 10, and pulled him within four shots of the leader.
