The British No 1 had completed a rain-interrupted second-round clash with Victoria Azarenka earlier in the day, but could not continue her momentum in the third round.
Buzarnescu was taken from the court on a wheelchair after a painful fall during a second round loss to Elina Svitolina on Wednesday. Ukraine's Svitolina, the world number five, took 85 minutes to move into the quarter-finals.
A place in the Coupe Rogers semi-final, Svitolina will play with the victor of the confrontation between the Belgian Elise Mertens and best paired Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) - Arina Sobolenko (Belarus).
